Slit smear from skin nodule for L.D. bodies

A slit smear from a skin nodule for L.D. (Leishman-Donovan) bodies is used to diagnose leishmaniasis, a parasitic infection caused by Leishmania species. The procedure involves making a small incision or slit in the skin nodule and scraping the tissue to collect a sample, which is then examined under a microscope for the presence of Leishmania parasites (L.D. bodies). The sample is stained (typically with Giemsa) to enhance visibility. Preparation includes cleaning the area, and risks are minimal, though there may be mild discomfort. Results are usually available within a few days and confirm the presence of the infection.
