MRI OF IVC

MRI of the Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) is a non-invasive imaging procedure used to assess the inferior vena cava, a major vein that carries deoxygenated blood from the lower body to the heart. It helps detect abnormalities like IVC thrombosis (blood clots), stenosis (narrowing), tumors (e.g., renal cell carcinoma), congenital anomalies (e.g., IVC duplication), and pregnancy-related changes (e.g., compression). The procedure involves lying still in the MRI scanner, with contrast dye sometimes used to enhance blood vessel visibility. There’s minimal preparation, typically fasting if contrast is used, and risks are low, including mild discomfort or rare allergic reactions to the dye. It is an effective tool for diagnosing vascular issues and informing treatment.
