Ascitic Fluid for Cytology
The Ascitic Fluid for Cytology test examines the cells in the ascitic fluid to detect abnormal cells, often used to diagnose cancer (such as peritoneal carcinomatosis) or identify infections like tuberculosis. The test involves collecting the ascitic fluid through paracentesis (a needle inserted into the abdomen). The fluid is then sent to a lab where it is analyzed under a microscope to check for the presence of malignant cells or other abnormalities.
