Stool for Floatation Test

A stool floatation test is a diagnostic procedure used to detect parasitic infections in the gastrointestinal tract. The test involves collecting a stool sample, which is then mixed with a special solution that causes parasites, such as Giardia, Entamoeba histolytica, or other intestinal protozoa and helminths, to float. This allows the lab to identify the presence of parasitic eggs, cysts, or larvae under a microscope. The floatation test is commonly used when there are symptoms of gastrointestinal distress, such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, or bloating, that suggest a parasitic infection. Results typically take 1-3 days, depending on the lab's processing time.
