This test is used to detect tuberculosis (TB) or other mycobacterial infections. Preparation involves collecting sputum or other body fluids. During the test, a sample is obtained by coughing or from a lesion site. Risks are minimal but may include mild discomfort when producing a sputum sample. After the test, no special care is needed. Results are interpreted based on the presence of acid-fast bacilli (AFB) under a microscope. A positive result suggests TB or mycobacterial infection.
