MCV

MCV (Mean Corpuscular Volume) measures the average size of red blood cells. It is part of a complete blood count (CBC) and helps classify types of anemia. MCV is calculated by dividing the total volume of red blood cells by their number in a given blood sample. Normal MCV values typically range from 80–100 fL. Low MCV indicates microcytic anemia (smaller red blood cells), often seen in iron deficiency anemia, while high MCV suggests macrocytic anemia (larger red blood cells), which can be caused by vitamin B12 or folate deficiencies. MCV results help diagnose and monitor anemia and other blood disorders.
