LE Cells

LE cells (Lupus Erythematosus cells) are a type of white blood cell seen in the blood of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), an autoimmune disorder. The LE cell test involves examining a blood sample under a microscope to detect these cells, which form when neutrophils engulf antibody-coated material. This test is used to help diagnose lupus or monitor disease activity. It is less commonly used today due to more specific tests for lupus. Risks from the test are minimal, typically related to blood sample collection. A positive result, combined with clinical symptoms, supports the diagnosis of lupus.
