Growth Hormone Suppression Test

The Growth Hormone (GH) Suppression Test evaluates how effectively the body regulates growth hormone levels, typically to diagnose conditions like acromegaly. During the test, fasting is required for 8–12 hours. A baseline blood sample is drawn, followed by the patient drinking a glucose solution. Blood samples are then collected at intervals (e.g., 30, 60, 90 minutes) to measure GH levels. Normally, glucose suppresses GH; failure to suppress may indicate abnormal GH production. Risks include dizziness, nausea, or bruising at the needle site. Results are analyzed alongside clinical findings. Factors like stress, illness, or certain medications may affect accuracy, necessitating proper preparation and doctor consultation.
