ERCP + Papillotomy

ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) with papillotomy is a procedure used to treat bile duct or pancreatic duct blockages, strictures, or stones. During the procedure, an endoscope is inserted through the mouth into the duodenum, where contrast dye is injected to visualize the ducts. If an obstruction is present, a small incision (papillotomy) is made in the sphincter of Oddi, the valve controlling bile flow, to allow easier access for stone removal or to facilitate stent placement. The procedure is performed under sedation. Risks include bleeding, infection, pancreatitis, or injury to the ducts. Follow-up care is important to ensure healing and avoid complications.
