Cortisol level 2 hrs. After Injection

The Cortisol Level 2 Hrs After Injection test measures the cortisol concentration in the blood two hours following an ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone) injection, as part of an ACTH Stimulation Test. The test is used to evaluate how well the adrenal glands respond to ACTH by producing cortisol. Normally, cortisol levels should rise within an hour and remain elevated for a period after the injection. If cortisol levels do not increase appropriately or peak within the expected range, it may indicate adrenal insufficiency, such as Addison’s disease or secondary adrenal insufficiency. This test helps diagnose issues related to adrenal gland function, assessing both adrenal capacity and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis health.
