CMV - IgG

CMV IgG (Cytomegalovirus Immunoglobulin G) is an antibody test used to detect the presence of IgG antibodies against Cytomegalovirus (CMV), a common virus that can cause infections. The presence of CMV IgG indicates past infection or exposure to the virus, as these antibodies typically remain in the bloodstream for life once a person has been infected. This test is often used to determine immunity to CMV, particularly in pregnant women, organ transplant recipients, or individuals with compromised immune systems, as CMV infection during pregnancy can lead to congenital CMV or other complications. A positive IgG result generally suggests previous exposure or a latent infection, while a negative result may indicate no prior exposure.
