Bronchial Washing for C/S for AFB

Bronchial Washing for C/S for AFB (Culture and Sensitivity for Acid-Fast Bacilli) is a procedure used to detect mycobacterial infections, such as tuberculosis (TB), in the lungs. During a bronchoscopy, a sterile saline solution is introduced into the bronchial tubes and suctioned out to collect mucus and cells. This sample is cultured to identify any bacterial or fungal infections, specifically testing for Acid-Fast Bacilli (AFB), which are indicative of TB. Sensitivity testing is performed to determine the most effective antibiotics or anti-TB medications. Risks include infection, bleeding, or discomfort. The results help guide appropriate treatment for TB or other mycobacterial infections.
