An MRI of the lower abdomen is a non-invasive imaging procedure that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of the organs and tissues in the lower abdomen, including the intestines, bladder, reproductive organs, and surrounding structures. It is commonly used to diagnose conditions such as tumors, inflammatory bowel disease, urinary tract issues, or gynecological conditions like ovarian cysts. No special preparation is typically required, but you may be asked to fast for a few hours before the procedure. During the scan, you will lie still in the MRI machine for about 20-40 minutes.
