Coombs Test Indirect
The Indirect Coombs Test (ICT) is a laboratory test used to detect antibodies against red blood cells (RBCs) that are present in the serum but are not yet attached to the RBCs. This test is primarily used in blood compatibility testing for blood transfusions and in prenatal care to assess the risk of hemolytic disease of the newborn (HDN). In the test, the patient’s serum is mixed with RBCs of known antigenic type. If antibodies are present in the serum, they will bind to the RBCs. The Coombs reagent is then added; if agglutination occurs, it indicates the presence of antibodies against the RBCs. The test is useful for detecting sensitized antibodies, ensuring safe blood transfusions and identifying pregnancy-related risks.450 BDT600 BDT
