In this procedure, a sample of cervical cells is collected and stained using the Gram stain method, which helps classify bacteria into two categories: Gram-positive (which stain purple) and Gram-negative (which stain pink). This test is particularly useful for identifying common bacterial pathogens such as Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, and Escherichia coli that may cause infections like cervicitis or pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).
