Bilirubin (Total)
Bilirubin (Total) measures the overall amount of bilirubin in the blood, which includes both direct (conjugated) and indirect (unconjugated) bilirubin. Bilirubin is a byproduct of the breakdown of red blood cells and is processed by the liver. Elevated total bilirubin levels can indicate liver dysfunction, gallbladder disease, or hemolysis (destruction of red blood cells). It is commonly used to diagnose conditions like jaundice, hepatitis, cirrhosis, or gallstones. The test is performed with a blood sample and carries minimal risk, typically just slight discomfort from the needle. Elevated levels may require further tests to pinpoint the underlying cause.225 BDT300 BDT
