ACTH
ACTH (Adrenocorticotropic Hormone) is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland that stimulates the adrenal glands to produce cortisol. The ACTH test is used to assess adrenal function and diagnose conditions like Addison’s disease, Cushing’s syndrome, and pituitary disorders. It helps evaluate the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. The test is typically done using a blood sample, and sometimes, a stimulated ACTH test may be performed to assess adrenal gland response. Risks are minimal, generally involving discomfort from blood collection. Elevated or low ACTH levels can indicate various hormonal imbalances or adrenal gland dysfunction.713 BDT950 BDT
