Prof. Dr. Syed Atiqul Haq, MD (Medicine), FCPS (Internal Medicine), is a distinguished figure in the field of Rheumatology, serving as the Chief Consultant at Green Life Center for Rheumatic Care and Research. With a pioneering role in establishing Bangladesh's first Rheumatology clinic in 1991, he has been a driving force in transforming the landscape of Rheumatology training, practices, and research in the country. As the Immediate Past President of the Asia-Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology (APLAR), he has contributed significantly to the advancement of the field. Dr. Haq, currently the President of the Bangladesh Rheumatology Society, played a pivotal role in founding the society in 1997. Under his leadership, the Rheumatology department was established at BSMMU in 2012, with Dr. Haq becoming its first chairman. Recognized for his scholarly contributions, he received the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 2003 and the International Fellowship of the American College of Rheumatology in 2005. His extensive academic pursuits encompass the Epidemiology of rheumatic disorders, with specific research interests in knee osteoarthritis (OA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). With over 200 publications to his name, including high-citation international peer-reviewed journals, Dr. Haq has earned accolades such as the Gold Medal from "The Bangladesh Academy of Sciences" in 1997. His multifaceted service to APLAR, including roles as coordinator, Vice President, Treasurer, and President, reflects his commitment to advancing Rheumatology on a global scale.
