Dr. Girish Rao completed his undergraduate studies at the prestigious Govt. Dental College Bangalore, where he achieved exceptional academic success. Throughout his four years of study, he ranked first in the Bangalore University and received two Gold Medals in recognition of his outstanding performance. Driven by his passion for oral and maxillofacial surgery, he pursued post-graduation at Govt. Dental College, Madras, securing the fifth rank through the all India quota. Following the completion of his post-graduation, he gained valuable experience in oral cancer while working at Kidwai Cancer Institute. To further enhance his skills, Dr. Girish Rao pursued training in the United Kingdom, obtaining fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Ireland. During this period, he gained comprehensive expertise in all aspects of faciomaxillary surgery while serving as a Senior Registrar at the esteemed St. Barts and Royal London Hospital, recognized as the world's oldest hospital. In 1999, Dr. Girish Rao returned to India and established himself as a consultant in faciomaxillary surgery at several prominent super specialty hospitals in Bangalore, including NIMHANS, Sagar Hospitals, Apollo Hospitals, Bangalore Institute of Oncology, and Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital. Additionally, he held the position of Professor and Head of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at RV Dental College & Hospital for a remarkable 17 years. With a particular focus on cleft lip and palate surgery, oral cancer, correction of facial deformities, facial trauma, and craniofacial surgery, Dr. Girish Rao is deeply committed to providing comprehensive care in his field. His contributions to the academic and research communities are evident through his publication of over 25 papers in international journals and his invitations as a keynote speaker at numerous national and international conferences. Notably, he has authored chapters in respected publications such as Hamilton Bailey's Clinical Methods in General Surgery and Le-fort Access Osteotomy in Juvenile Angiofibroma. Dr. Girish Rao's dedication and expertise have earned him recognition and prestigious appointments. He served as the Vice President of the Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons of India and was appointed as an Ambassador for the International Congress of Oral Implantology. This year, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh bestowed upon him a Fellowship and appointed him as an examiner for the Membership Exam in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery held in Cairo, Dubai, Bangalore, and Hong Kong. Dr. Girish Rao's contributions continue to shape the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery both nationally and internationally.
