Bronchoalveolar Lavage (BAL) for GeneXpert (MTB) is a diagnostic procedure used to detect Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), the bacteria that cause tuberculosis (TB), in the lungs. During bronchoscopy, a sterile saline solution is introduced into the alveoli and suctioned out to collect lung fluid. This fluid is then analyzed using the GeneXpert MTB test, which rapidly detects MTB DNA and provides results within hours.
