Throat Swab for AFB
A Throat Swab for AFB (Acid-Fast Bacilli) is used to detect tuberculosis (TB) or other mycobacterial infections in the throat. The procedure involves collecting a sample of mucus from the throat using a sterile swab. No special preparation is usually required. The swab is sent to a lab, where it's stained and examined under a microscope. Potential risks include mild discomfort or gagging. Results are interpreted by the presence of AFB; positive results suggest TB or a related infection.
