COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test
The COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test is a diagnostic test used to detect the presence of specific antigens (proteins) from the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19. The test is typically performed on a nasal or throat swab sample. Unlike PCR tests, which detect viral RNA, antigen tests identify viral proteins and produce results much faster, usually within 15 to 30 minutes. The rapid antigen test is often used for screening purposes in situations like mass testing, travel requirements, or to quickly identify potentially infectious individuals. However, it may have a lower sensitivity than PCR tests, meaning it is more likely to produce false negatives, especially in individuals with low viral loads or early in the infection.
