Bone Marrow for Fungus
Bone Marrow for Fungus is a test used to detect fungal infections within the bone marrow, often in immunocompromised patients or those with unexplained fevers or persistent infections. The procedure involves aspirating a small sample of bone marrow, usually from the hip bone, under local anesthesia. The sample is then examined microscopically or cultured to identify fungal organisms. While the test is generally safe, it may cause mild discomfort, bruising, or, in rare cases, infection at the biopsy site.
