Blood C/S for Anaerobic (FAN Method) is a specialized test used to detect anaerobic bacterial infections in the bloodstream. The FAN method involves culturing blood in a way that promotes the growth of bacteria that thrive without oxygen (anaerobes). This test is crucial for identifying infections caused by bacteria such as Clostridium, Bacteroides, and Fusobacterium, which cannot grow in the presence of oxygen. The blood sample is cultured under controlled conditions, and antibiotic susceptibility testing is also performed.
