Anti-Mitochondrial Antibody
The Anti-Mitochondrial Antibody (AMA) test detects antibodies against the mitochondria, the energy-producing structures in cells. Elevated levels of AMA are primarily associated with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), a chronic liver disease where the immune system attacks the bile ducts, leading to liver damage. The test is used to diagnose PBC, particularly in individuals with symptoms like fatigue, jaundice, or elevated liver enzymes. It is performed with a blood sample, and the risks are minimal, generally involving slight discomfort during the blood draw. A positive result is a key marker for diagnosing PBC.750 BDT1000 BDT
