Service Providers for Urine for GeneXpert (MTB)
A urine GeneXpert (MTB) test is a molecular diagnostic test used to detect Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), the bacteria that causes tuberculosis (TB), in a urine sample. It can also detect resistance to rifampicin, a first-line TB medication. The test is performed using the GeneXpert instrument, which analyzes the urine sample for the presence of MTB DNA. Results are typically available within 2 hours.
The test is used to diagnose TB, particularly in people with extrapulmonary TB (TB outside the lungs), such as in the kidneys or urinary tract. It is also used to monitor treatment response and detect drug resistance.
