Service Providers for Synovial Fluid for AFB
A synovial fluid for AFB test detects Mycobacterium tuberculosis or other acid-fast bacilli in the synovial fluid, which can cause tuberculous arthritis. The test is performed when there are signs of chronic joint infection, swelling, or unexplained pain. A sample of synovial fluid is collected through joint aspiration, stained with an acid-fast technique, and cultured to identify the bacteria. Positive results indicate a tuberculosis infection in the joint. Results from staining are quicker, while cultures may take weeks.
