A swab C/S for AFB (Culture and Sensitivity for Acid-Fast Bacilli) test is used to detect the presence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis or other acid-fast bacilli (AFB) from a swab sample, typically collected from a lesion, wound, or mucosal surface. The sample is cultured in a laboratory to allow any AFB present to grow. AFB are characteristic of tuberculosis and other mycobacterial infections. The culture can also determine the sensitivity of the bacteria to different antibiotics. Results can take several days to weeks, depending on the growth of the bacteria.
