A Duplex Study of kidney or renal perfusion is a non-invasive ultrasound test used to assess blood flow to the kidneys. It combines traditional ultrasound imaging with Doppler technology to evaluate both the structure of the renal arteries and the blood flow within them. This test is commonly used to diagnose conditions like renal artery stenosis (narrowing of the arteries), kidney ischemia (reduced blood flow), or hypertension-related kidney issues. During the procedure, a gel is applied to the skin, and a transducer is placed over the abdomen to capture images and measure the blood flow to the kidneys. The test is generally painless, though mild pressure may be felt from the transducer. Results help guide treatment, such as medication, angioplasty, or surgery.
